Description:

Under minimal supervision, the SAP BASIS Administrator maintains the life-cycle management of SAP systems within a SAP Landscape of BW, Solution Manager and Portal.

Applies standard SAP principles, concepts and techniques in system installation, user administration, managing system access, monitoring performance and problem diagnosis and resolution. Demonstrates excellent tactical approaches that also reflect the strategic perspective.

Work is largely self-directed and may receive general review for overall fit with the SAP and enterprise strategy.

Administers all aspects of the SAP BW, Solution Manager and Portal systems. Installs the system, performs upgrades, and applies system “patches” (OSS notes, support packages, add-ons). Supports the technical implementation of the SAP system landscape as it evolves (i.e., development, test, staging and production). Performs system refreshes; participates in the scheduling of refreshes as requested. Monitors and tunes performance and workflow

Manages the SAP system landscape, including the Transport Management System. Performs systems maintenance and upgrades as needed, including backups and restores. Solves a wide range of difficult problems independently. Identifies needed system corrections and enhancements and recommends changes. Applies advanced system management principles, concepts and techniques. Evaluates and recommends new hardware, software, tools and utilities within the SAP environment. Provides staffing for systems support consistent with Service Level Agreements. Works extensively with and has moderate influence among others within the SAP group, the IT Department and with others outside the IT Department. Provides subject matter expertise in technical and process discussions; may serve as a member of a technology advisory group. Fulfills routine communication requirements. Acts as a technical resource to other SAP support personnel and IT personnel.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Must have UNIX shell scripting experience to maintain and develop SAP monitoring scripts with email notification and integration with Remedy for ticket management.
  • Must have security experience
  • Must have HA clustering experience in the UNIX environment for SAP ECC and SAP Portal. Must be able to support active/active and active/passive nodes.
  • Must have STMS transport configuration, setup and troubleshooting experience
  • Solid understanding of relational database theory, including familiarity with Oracle database structures; solid understanding of programming concepts, including familiarity with SQL programming.

Job Description:

The JD Edwards Applications Lead will be responsible for managing a group of applications, service providers, and overseeing Managed Services engagements with several vendors.  This is a customer-facing role for our client. This position is the primary point of contact for Managed Services vendors for application solutions, problem and change management,etc.

Key Accountabilities (include the following and other duties may be assigned):

  • Ensure Applications are meeting the business needs and are performing as expected. The Applications Lead is a hands-on position, focused on developing strong relationships with the business and contributing to the improvement of overall application architecture.
  • Participate and lead application related projects and liaison with Offshore Managed Services Lead.
  • Solution design, implementation, configuration management, production support and applications portfolio management.
  • Daily guidance and support to all application service providers including feedback and direction
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, technical domains, Service Delivery Managers, leadership team and Service Management representatives
  • Monitor and escalate issues/outages and ensuring timely resolution of incidents to meet SLA’s
  • Design appropriate management reports/scorecards that articulate financial results and highlight inefficiencies, identifying and interpreting trends and improvements
  • Set and manage outsourcing contract service level agreements, acting as a delivery escalation point around BPL priorities and issues
  • Manage the operational and financial performance of the outsourcing contract
  • Drive and implement continuous improvement and optimization (lean) programs for operational processes
  • Governance of ITIL disciplines ensuring compliance to industry and internal audit controls.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will have management experience as well as experience interacting with vendors to manage through issues (e.g. service issues) with a high degree of professionalism and attentiveness.

The candidate must be well versed in IT operations standards such as ITIL – and have experience managing IT application enhancements and projects (e.g. upgrades, bug fix, etc.).

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology-related discipline

Experience:

  • Strong experience with Enterprise One, 9.0
  • 5+ years with service management.  Specifically, incident, problem and change management as well as request, demand, resource, user relationship and performance management
  • 5+ years with application management.  Specifically, enhancement and support, configuration, availability, security, capacity and release management
  • 5+ years’ experience providing status to executives, creating clear and concise documentation to explain complex concepts and/or issues, presenting content to client executives
  • 7+ years supporting and maintaining JD Edwards applications (Finance, Inventory Management, Procurement, Job Cost, Time Entry)
  • Experience with deploying or managing hosted virtual applications
  • Experience developing and maintaining contracts with Service Level Agreements.

Other skills, attributes and abilities:

  • Ability to maintain an extreme sense of urgency in all interactions with the customer
  • Solid knowledge of ERP (JDE) Architecture, SQL and scripting languages
  • Knowledge of version management and excellent documentation skills.
  • Full application development life-cycle including requirements gathering, analysis and design, coding, testing, deployment, and on-going support
  • Knowledge of Service Management/ITIL support and Change Control processes and procedures
  • Leading an implementation or ongoing operations in an outsourcing industry
  • Some travel will be necessary.

Certificates and Licenses:

ITIL/APICS Foundations certification preferred
